First time pacing!

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
On my very first half-marathon, I remember dragging my feet to the finishing line holding my thigh and agonised in pain, with approximately 1km left to go. Then, out of nowhere, a an more than twice or even thrice my age tapped me on the shoulders and signalled me  long. He continually motivated and cheered me on as he paced me towards the finishing line. After the race, we had a conversation and he said to me, “Young man, when you experience the simplicity of running, you won’t stop.”

Fast forward a year later – I’m still running and truthfully, I hope I won’t stop. Looking back, I realised that I’ve only kept going forward in this journey simply because of the many people that have inspired me to continue running. But I think through it all, I’ve gained a deeper revelation of the spirit of camaraderie, friendship and more. There’s strength when someone runs alongside you. There’s strength when someone pushes you on. There’s strength when someone helps you go beyond your own self-perceived limitations.

And for me, that is why I want to help pace others. I want to be able to inspire others – the same way that I have been inspired by many. Join my team and I on race-day, and we will most assuredly encourage you, enable you and empower you towards your personal best time!

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
The running community in Singapore has grown a lot over the years, where people desire to lead a healthier lifestyle or to achieve a better timing than their previous race. By being part of the pacer group, I’m able to inspire and share my past running experiences with them to help them achieve their goals!

“In running, it doesn’t matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say, ‘I have finished.’ There is a lot of satisfaction in that.” – Fred Lebow, New York City Marathon co-founder.

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
My name is Keith and I am passionately in love with running. I have been running since 2008, and have learned a lot along the way. Through running, I also came to know lots wonderful friends whom have helped me adopted a positive approach towards balancing training, family and work.

I enjoy helping others find their own passion with running and in pacing, I found a favorite thing: Encouraging and motivating others with positive reinforcement and endless energy!

Through pacing, I hope to show each runner that they can succeed and that their hard work can always pay off. Pacing is my way to give back to the running community that has been so generous to me. Run with the official pacers on race day and we will show you how running can give you endless joy and feelings of tremendous accomplishment!

First time pacing!

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
As a scientist and runner, I spend a lot of my time running experiments during work hours or on the sidewalks after work hours. I have been running regularly for about six years and pacing races for the last two years. While SCMS will mark the 6th race I have paced, I am as excited as ever to be pacing SCMS as a member of the 2h15min Half Marathon pacer team .

I paced my first race while working in Seattle, and have not looked back since. Seeing the joy of runners upon achieving their target time and receiving their appreciation at the finish line are two big reasons that keep me coming back for more pacing assignments.

My team of pacers for the SCMS Half Marathon, who will be running at a constant pace to finish the Half Marathon in just under 2h15min. As pacers, we welcome participants to utilize us in multiple ways ranging from running side-by-side with us as motivational running buddies to stalking us from a distance and using us as a time marker to using us as a caution sign to prevent yourself from starting off too fast!

Looking forward to my first pacing experience and also to have this opportunity to give back to the running community. Through the process, I hope to be able help runners achieve their running goals, and get to know fellow pacers and runners better.

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
For the love of sweets: cakes, ice cream, chocolates, candies and such….the perfect foil to this indulgence would be to run and burn off all the calories. This obvious solution has grown into a passion for running, especially with friends of like mind.

Pacing for the 6th year continues my joy of meeting and making new friends that share this love for running.

The satisfaction of seeing the joy on the faces of fellow runners when they pass the finish line is such a rewarding feeling.

First time pacing!

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
Inspired by my then-gf in 2012 completing her maiden HM, I decided to get those first pairs of running shoes. Since then, I eat to run and run to eat (also sometimes hatch those Pokemons as well) :)) a post-run routine usually revolves making sure those calories are regained, if not more. And yes, I married her.

There are many reasons on committing to be a pacer. Top 3 are new friends (and makan places), new habits (wake up earlier on non-working days than working days) and knowing there are others who are crazier than myself everytime I think I’m at the limit of what I can do in terms of running are, at the very least, inspiring.

Chat with me on 4 Dec if you want to know more about my running history / Running Department / pacing stuffs or anything else under the sun.

Fav running quote: Don’t ask me why I run, ask yourself why you don’t :)

See you at the start line on 4 Dec 2016!

Hi, I’m Jiaguang the biggest in size among all the other pacers. Started running with a mindset of losing weight. After running with Running Department for almost 3yrs, I realise that running in a group helps you to run a longer distance and most importantly you wont feel bored!

With the help of other runners to motivate and help me running, I would like to take this chance to help other runners as well. That’s why I decide to be a pacer!

Hope that with my small contribution to the running community can make a difference to other runners I helped through pacing. Helping fellow runnings leading a healthier lifestyle!

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
Because breaking ice over coffee or lunch is too typical. Because there’s no better way to encourage you to run than to actually do it with you. Because I’m an introvert, getting to know you is scary, but doing so while running allows me to channel my awkwardness into each step so it’s not as obvious.

So, Hello! I’m Raquel from Running Department, nice to meet you (in advance). Let’s have fun and cross the finishing line together!

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
Serving in the public healthcare domain brought me greater awareness and appreciation of the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, it is my honour and privilege to be part of the SCMS 2016 pacing team, where I am given the opportunity to make a difference to SCMS participants’ run and promoting good health.

Having benefited from the psychological advantage of training with a pace group, it is my wish to be able to provide that extra motivation to fellow runners as well by serving as a SCMS 2016 pacer and help them achieve their goals.

First time pacing!

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
I started serious running only less than 5 years ago and it was by chance that I joined Running Department to train regularly for last year’s SCMS marathon. Since then, my passion for running has grew and have been invited to be a pacer with them.

Even though, I have only been active in running since 3 years ago and joined various marathons, I also realised that this sport has helped me to stay focus in life. Strange you may ask but this sport has trained me to have good self-discipline and strengthen my determination to achieve. No one is too old to try new stuff.

With this passion growing and becoming a pacer, I hope to share my experience and running tips. I hope to inspire more people into running and have healthier lifestyles. Running is a sport that is almost “cost free” and only time and effort is needed to make it work. Most importantly, as a pacer, I will be able to encourage and boost the confidence of those who run with me. With constant practice and determination, anyone is able to compete in marathon and make it to the finishing line.

Seeing participants cross the finish line is always my biggest satisfaction and achievement.

Hello just your average Joe who started running seriously when I signed up for Sundown in 2012. Been running since. Always on a look out for good cushioning shoes. And is lucky to be working at a place where I can express my passion for running with others.

Why do I want to pace? Cause I want to give back to the running community and I hope the runners who run with us feels that running isn’t necessary a lonely sport and is best enjoyed in a group.

First time pacing!

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
When I joined a run in 2012, I was pretty amazed that I could even complete it, in spite of the time I took to finish it at all. Since then, I took on running as a hobby and a means to unwind from the stresses of life. Running and exploring Singapore on foot, and also bringing friends along and letting them see that they can achieve it too, allowed me to keep things varied and interesting. I have a lovely wife and a one year-old daughter (who got the
lovely part from her), and I hope to be able to keep them interested in staying active as a way of life.

Being a pacer is a natural extension of my usual running habits, because it meant that I would be able to help even more people achieve something they can be proud and confident of in future.

I truly hope we will help fellow runners in finishing SCMS 2016 well. Come join us if you’re aiming to finish the half marathon in roughly 2h45min!

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
What started as a “weight-loss” journey became a passion for me when I started to take on a much more serious interest in running in 2007. I wasn’t fit, doesn’t like to run and had limited knowledge on sports and fitness.

Fast forward to 2016, we’re already into the 6th edition of the pacers program since I took on the role to manage the pacer program back in 2011. I hope that my team of pacers from Running Department can help to motivate and cheer you on towards the finishing line on race day, and eventually inspire you to become future pacers who can contribute to this awesome pacing family.
