Do you know the faces of the pacers you’ll be running with on race day? Get familiar with these friendly motivators from Running Department – they’ll be one of your biggest cheerleaders on 6 December :)

Nakamura Tsubasa, 40
3hrs 45mins Group Leader

YEARS RUNNING:
6 Years

ABOUT ME:
A Japanese devotee of running, tennis, softball, yoga and Starbucks.

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
I had chased pacers’ back and broken my previous records during the past marathons I’ve ran. This is why I had decided to apply for pacer programs last year. I believe that the pacer is a good companion and helps runners to achieve their PB. I was thanked a lot by runners who followed me & established their new records during SCMS14. Marathon is not run in loneliness. We will always run with you and for you, not for ourselves. I will lead you to the goal within 3:45!

Eddy Herbert, 34
3hrs 45mins Asst Group Leader

YEARS RUNNING:
6 Years and more

ABOUT ME:
Running is my ‘out’. Good ideas come to mind when running. No matter where in the world I maybe, I always put on my trainers and hit the bricks. My running routine gives me a positive outlook on life, discipline and most importantly good health. I never run with music as I like to focus on my breathing and form.

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
Having paced before, I want to help others achieve their personal goals. Those who want to complete a 3:45 marathon, stick with us, trust our pace and cross the line with us!

Christian Pietsch, 38
3hrs 45mins

YEARS RUNNING:
6 Years and more

ABOUT ME:
I do have a big favour for endurance sports. I am very active in triathlon sports as of half or full distances. The required discipline in regular training, proper nutrition and balanced mindset helped me to archive new personal heights and perspectives.

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
To motivate, support and drive other runners for their personal best achievements.

David Chung, 45
4hrs 00mins Group Leader

YEARS RUNNING:
6 Years and more

ABOUT ME:
Caught the running bug around 2006, and haven’t looked back since. Runs just for the fun of it. Prefers a 0-4mm drop shoe. Not a very competitive fellow, but secretly harbours thoughts of qualifying for Boston one day. Has a particular penchant for trail running… the longer the better. Thinks of hills as friends.

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
I once heard a wise runner say: “Don’t Chase The Distance, Let The Distance Come To You.” And I’ve been letting the distance run to me ever since… Just remember: run the first third of the race with your head, run the next third with your legs, and run the last third with your heart.

Goh Chang Teck, 22
4hrs 00mins Asst Group Leader

YEARS RUNNING:
3-5 Years

ABOUT ME:
I’m a person who wants to be different and stand out from the rest of the runners out there in Singapore and the world. I run races to enjoy myself only, and PB is secondary. I love seeing people and having them around me because it is through their presence that I myself am self encouraged to run faster. I like doing impromptu long distance running, and most of all trail running is what I love the most!!

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
I am Chang Teck. Just your average runner seeking for the attainment, fulfilment and excellence of desires way beyond what we are able to handle. I am but a creature of passion; never reason.

YEARS RUNNING:
7 Years

ABOUT ME:
I’m hooked on long distance running and have completed 8 marathons till date. Simply because running is liberating! It brings me happiness and has rewarded me with many positive friendships, accomplishments, experience and memories. The truth is, the more I put into running, the more it gives back. This is the third time I’m pacing a full marathon and I look forward to meeting the participants.

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
Running and training for a marathon is challenging. But the sense of accomplishment when one crosses the finishing line makes it all worthwhile- even more exhilarating when you complete within your goal time. This is what I aim to help the full marathon participants achieve. It is a rewarding experience.

Tan Soo Eng, 39
4hrs 30mins Group Leader

YEARS RUNNING:
7 Years

ABOUT ME:
I have a deep interest in consumers’ lives and understanding what drives them in their choices for products and services. When I’m not thinking about other people’s aspirations, I run in hopes of qualifying for Boston one day. I find having a training plan really helps, and love to learn what works for other people. There is only one thing I really hate about running: dirty laundry.

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
I enjoy the challenge of having a goal, and the discipline required to achieve it. I understand how hard one needs to work to run their best on race day. By pacing well, I hope to support others to achieve their goals.

Kevin Lee, 27

ABOUT ME:
I have always preferred playing other sports and did not enjoy running until I started running in the company of fellow runners whom later turned friends. Since then, running with them has become a weekly affair which I look forward to. They have made me much more motivated to achieve new PBs and live my own success story.

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
Having had an enjoyable experience pacing for the first time last year – helping fellow runners achieve their goals while making new friends along the way as well as becoming a stronger runner myself, I’m back again this year hoping to relive the experience.

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
I strongly believe that runners are made, not born. I hope to motivate fellow marathoners to challenge their limits and do their very best as a pacer. ABOUT ME:
I was not into running 4 years ago. In fact, it was one of my hated activity until I was challenged by my friend to sign up for the Sundown Marathon 2012, in which I had only 4-5 months to train for. During that time, I started to enjoy running and became seriously addicted to it. And I was happy to complete my first marathon in 5hrs 30mins.

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
I love to see people achieving their goals, and there is nothing more fulfilling than to run alongside participants, inspiring and encouraging them along the journey.

Christopher Cheow, 27
4hrs 45mins Group Leader

YEARS RUNNING:
5 Years

ABOUT ME:
I don’t really like going to the gym and running is the easiest avenue to maintain a healthy lifestyle. (It also enables me to collect the 400 ang bao from the army every year when I take my IPPT so that’s a good motivation haha)

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
I choose to pace because it gives me an opportunity to reach out to a wider group of people, learn more about the world through these interactions and work towards a common goal (finishing the run). One of the best things about running and goals is to see our goals to fruition at the finish.

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
I joined SCMS pacer in 2013 with the aim to contribute back to the running community and to meet like-minded people. If a veteran like me can pick up running in my early 40s, everyone will be capable to do so as long as you persevere and invest time and effort. Running a full marathon is never easy. Derrick Thio, 42

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
I remember I used to set goals in marathon races and I used to follow closely to the event pacers to achieve them. Many runners are training hard in order to achieve their personal bests and I will be delighted to be part of their journey, to motivate and encourage them along the way till the finished line.
