ABOUT ME:
A Japanese devotee of running, tennis, softball, yoga and Starbucks.

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
Hi SCMS runners,
I’m Nakamura from Japan, country of sushi and guys in business suits (like me). SCMS 2016 is my 3rd year as a pacer and 6th one as a participant.

The number of sub-4 runners in Singapore has been increasing year after year. As a 3:45 pacer, I would like to pace potential sub 4 or 3.5 runners. If more runners achieve them, I will be so happy!

I do have a big favour for endurance sports. I am very active in triathlon sports as of half or full distances. The required discipline in regular training, proper nutrition and balanced mindset helped me to archive new personal heights and perspectives.

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
I am into endurance sports since multiple years. Actually I started this sports with the main aim to reduce body weight. After successful reduction of several kg, I kept on doing until today. I hope with the success story of myself I am able to motivate other people to be successful as well.

This wouldn’t have been possible without help and camaraderie from others. I am pacing now to send back this motivation and pleasure, build memorable experience as a team and learn to be more consistent to achieve better results.

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
Have been running for what feels like a long time, generally focused on trying to improve my road marathon time. Pacing is a great opportunity to do what I like while at the same time giving back and growing the community i love.

“Why i want to pace” – Good question! I ask myself that very often when waking early Saturday mornings for trainings. But all that is soon quickly forgotten once our pacers gather, greeting new and familar faces, enjoying the simple pleasure of group runs, and the camaraderie over well deserved post-run breakfasts.
To all participants of SCMS, taper well and have a great run! Looking forward to have you join any one of our pace
groups on race day!

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
I used to be mildly competitive and even though I’ve been running for many years now, this is my first time taking up a pacer role. Running is often seen as an individual sport and pacing is a good showcase of how teamwork in running comes into play. This is a personal challenge to me and I hope that through my runs, not only do I fulfil my own aspirations but more importantly help others achieve their targeted finish time!

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
Hi everyone!! I’m Fadz and I have been running together with the feel good peeps since February this year. I am married with two lovely kids.. When I am not running, my other occupation is teaching Geography and English Language at a secondary school somewhere in the western side of Singapore.

I first started pacing early this year and SCMS 2016 will be the third time that I am running a race as a pacer. After achieveing my personal best record for the full marathon in June this year, clocking a sub-4 hours timing, I would like motivate and help others achieve their running goals be it to complete their first full marathon or to set a new personal best. That’s the reason why I choose to pace at this year’s SCMS instead of running my own race.

I hope to see that sense of satisfaction of achieving their running goals among each and every runner that crosses the finishing line come Dec 4, 2016. Deep down inside, I can then tell myself that I have contributed to the running society by becoming a pacer at SCMS 2016.

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
I started out as an avid student athlete, and my love for running has grown since. Running has taught me valuable lessons about life and also forged many friendships that I will treasure my entire life. My ultimate goal is to maintain a healthy lifestyle through running even as a working adult.

I have always been a believer of giving back to the community and being a pacer is definitely one good way in achieving it. What’s better than being able to run and at the same time help fellow runners achieve their personal goals?

I hope that together with the 4:00 hr marathon pace group, we are able to help runners aiming to achieve a timing close to 4 hrs on race day and leave them with a memorable experience in running.

I enjoy running all kinds of races, from 5km to ultras. I have a particular soft spot for Marathons as I am always wondering if I can do better than the last race. Pacing is my way to give back to the sport which has given me much joy and meaning. I hope more people can start exercise consistently to stay healthy and enjoy the challenge of racing marathons.

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
Born and bred in Germany, I call Singapore home since 2013. Outdoor activities have always been part of my life and after playing football for over 18 years I found my passion for (trail) running five years ago and I am trying to compete every other month. For my training I enjoy both either an early morning run to get positive energy for the day or a relaxing evening run along the scenic views of Singapore’s skyline or along East Coast Park.

In the last three years I have preferably joined (half-) marathon or trail events in which I often could benefit from excellent pacers helping me to reach my PBs. However running is not all about competing and to date I always encourage my friends and colleagues to do the first step to start exercising and to join me for running events. This year’s Singapore Marathon will be my second time being a SCMS Pacer and I am looking forward to be part
of the training journey leading up to race day and I hope that I can encourage and motivate you along the way to finish strong.

Apart from helping you to finish on race day, I believe that proper pacing makes all of us a better and injur-free runner and I hope that with the SCMS 2016 pacer program we all together become better runner and create habits on par with our dreams for 2017 to unlock greater achievements.

And this year, my aim is to start well, stay consistent throughout and end the race with you.

By being an SCMS pacer, I hope to be part of the journeys of fellow runners in helping them create their own personal milestones!

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
Hi, I am Hock Ann. I used to have ITB issue which caused me to stop running from 2008-2012. I chance upon minimalist and chi running and has since relearned how to run. Since then, I was able to overcome ITB issue (of course there are many other factors to consider as well with respect to injury prevention) and get to enjoy running. I hope to encourage as many people to like and enjoy running as well. Through the pacer program, I will be able to join like minded runners in the program to spread the joy of running to the greater running community!

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
I’m not a fast runner. I prefer doing long distance at steady pace without getting my heart pumping too hard! I’d like to believe endurance is my strength but I’m still working on it.
I first signed up as pacer last year when I decided not to chase for a PB but still would like to run the SC marathon.

I’ve been running SC full marathon every year since 2010! So I thought maybe I could help others chase their PB instead!

I learned last year that pacing could be harder than chasing PB in some ways. It’s not just your PB is at stake, it’s all the other runners relying on you for their PB. I hope with all the training we have gone through, and the strong teamwork among the pacers, we will be able to deliver, and enjoy the experience at the same time!

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
Started running a bit more seriously 4 years ago when I signed up for my 1st 10km race with Sundown. Been addicted to running ever since.

My biggest challenge then was to complete a 10km race and it was with the pacers’ help that I was able to reach the finishing line. Since then, I had completed several 10kms, half and full marathons. Through running, I was also given opportunity to be active and meet a great community of individuals who find enjoyment in running.

Pacing gives me an opportunity to help others achieve their goals as other had helped me.

Running is not just about achieving of your personal achievement, but only also one of the best ways to make new friends with common interest. This is the 4th year since I first started running, and I am glad that I’ve made a right choice of taking that first step.

When I first start running, I was inspired by the pacers during races. I was also benefited from them. Now that I am given an opportunity to pace, I hope I could benefit and contribute to running community.

I hope that the motivation we give during the race could continue to inspire runner on their passion in running, and from there, further inspire others into the running community!

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
Everyone has a story on why she wants to run a marathon and mine was because of a chance encounter on 30,000 feet high. That serendipitous meeting led me to run a full marathon on Great Wall, through the wilderness in Ijen Java and up the mountains in Alishan Taiwan and the upcoming SCMS will be my 4th full marathon for 2016. On the road I met a lot of helpful runners who encouraged me to complete the race when the
going got tough and I hope to do the same for you too. Hit me up if you plan to complete the race in 4 hours and 45 mins and we can trade stories on why we are running the course on 4 Dec :)

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
While I believe myself to be a pretty sporty person, running had never appealed to me. It was only when I suffered an injury while serving NS that I’ve come to be thankful that I’m still able to walk and run. My passion for running has blossomed since then.

Aside from running and exercising to keep fit, I like hanging out with my friends via video gaming, and catching pockets of quiet time absorbed in a book. I’m quite strict with my diet, but I’m a huge sucker for desserts, especially chocolate!

Running with pacers has always left me highly motivated, especially with their zeal and boundless enthusiasm. Nothing perks me up more than seeing balloons (and hearing music) in the distance when I’m racing!

I want to share this feeling with you guys, as well! It doesn’t matter if it’s your first (or your 50th) race, come on down and I promise my team High5 (FM5:00) will get high with you!

I choose to pace because I want to run with YOU and cheer YOU on, whether conquering the distance or achieving a personal best. Together, we run HAPPY and finish STRONG =)

I am a BIG 40 baby this year, always curious about myself whether I run for fun or having fun to run with my legs.

This year’s SCMS shall be my 11th marathon. Most probably it will be my strongest journey as a SCMS pacer to lead 40 years of my life. I wish I can be deployed as a good running guide for the public to use me as their talking timer gauge to achieve their desired timing. To use my running experience in the form of returning attribute to the running community. Shall look forward to become a stronger motivator this year with double boost on my enthusiasm.

I look forward to finish together with my team as one and hopefully to catch some photo memories of this fun experience.

Friends call me “Tall” but I’m not exactly that vertically gifted. Close guy friends call me “Bro” but truth is that deep down I’m very girly.

Got hooked onto running, adventure racing and rock climbing few years back. Ultra running is another field that I’m trying to venture into. Love to see now far my legs could bring me. Love the feeling of muscle aches the very next day.

I want to pace to give back to the running community. In addition, I love to encourage runners at their darkest moments during the race :) As much as most people see running as a boring solo sport, I believe it can be made fun running with a group.

Run with us during the race! We promise you endless entertainment and a completion time of 5:00 hours :)

WHY I CHOOSE TO PACE:
I was a chubby kid who finally got fit from the rigors of training for NAPFA in secondary school. Discovered that I had a knack for running in my mid 20s when I first started work and took part in several of those “pioneering” marathons in the mid 90s.

After a 10-year hiatus due to marriage and the rigors of raising my 2 kids, I rediscovered running 6 years ago and started on the long journey back to fitness. It’s been a fruitful journey back, not least due to the fact that I’ve made many new friends from what is now an incredibly popular sport!

I chose to pace this year because I really depended on following the SCMS pacers last year in completing my first marathon in almost 20 years. I realized then how important and supportive, pacing is for most runners, especially if you have a time goal. I wanted to (hopefully) help someone else this year to reach their own time goals.

Running (and sports in general) is about setting and meeting your own goals and challenges. Age is not a barrier!

Patience (and some wisdom!) usually comes with age. And patience is very important when you are running long distances!

Started running about 2 years ago. Before that, I was never into running or any kind of sports. Instantly fell in love with barefoot running when I tried that one day as a newbie runner, and ever since I got hooked on barefoot running.

After becoming regular in running I started preparing for my first full marathon in 2015, enjoyed every bit of it, including the training process, excitement during race and satisfaction post race.

I am usually a solo runner, but love the group runs with #RunningDepartment as well.
As a hobby I enjoy solving Sudoku and twisty puzzles such as Rubik’s Cubes.

I believe running is a mind game and Marathons can be run by normal people like me. I wish to inspire more people to start, experience, celebrate and share the joy of running.
