Standard Chartered Bank Extends Marathon Singapore Partnership with Three-Year Sponsorship Renewal
SINGAPORE, 21 April 2014 – Standard Chartered Bank today announced its long running commitment to sports in Singapore with a three-year title sponsorship renewal for the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore (SCMS). The new partnership will see Standard Chartered Bank, together with event owner Sport Singapore and event organiser Spectrum Worldwide, deliver the marquee event through to 2016.
Guest-of-Honour Mr Tan Chuan-Jin, Acting Minister of Manpower, was present to witness this announcement, which marks one of the longest-standing sponsorships for a sporting event in Singapore.
The S$10.5 million in funding over the next three years is a significant boost to Singapore’s burgeoning running community, with the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore now firmly established as a ‘must-do’ event for both elite and leisure runners.
The renewed commitment to one of the country’s most recognised sporting events stems from the courage, determination and passion of the runners who have participated over the years. These values resonate deeply with Standard Chartered Bank Singapore, which is proud to bring together again an event that engages runners, supporters, volunteers, corporates and the community.
Mr Neeraj Swaroop, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore, Standard Chartered Bank expressed, “Since 2002, Standard Chartered Bank has played a part in nurturing Singapore’s passion for running, and together with Sport Singapore and Spectrum Worldwide, we aim to develop the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore into one of Asia’s best. The marathon has been an excellent platform for the Bank to engage with all our stakeholders, and it is an event that the Bank and our staff are immensely proud of. I am pleased that so many of our staff support the Bank’s involvement by participating in the race and giving back to the community while doing so.”
Last year, more than 2,000 Standard Chartered Bank staff and their children participated in the event.
Mr Lim Teck Yin, Chief Executive Officer, Sport Singapore, thanked Standard
Chartered Bank for its unwavering support for the event, which has played an instrumental role in propelling Singapore into the ranks of Asia’s premier sports destinations.
Said Mr Lim, “Standard Chartered Bank has long been a valued partner of sport in Singapore and her contribution through the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore exemplifies how a sports event could be grown over the years to reach out to young and old, and inspire people to live better through sport.”
Mr Chris Robb, Managing Director, Spectrum Worldwide said, “Events such as the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore can only continue to grow with outstanding commitment and support from a valued partner such as Standard Chartered Bank. We look forward to working with both Standard Chartered Bank and Sport Singapore in creating yet another unforgettable race experience in 2014.”
