SINGAPORE’S SUPER SUNDAY OF SPORT!
The perfect way to spend your day…
The 7th December is set to be a ‘Super Sunday of Sport’ when the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore (SCMS) 2014 and Nations Cup 2014 (NC) take place for a fun-filled day that everyone can be a part of!
Spectrum Worldwide, event organisers of SCMS and Netball Singapore have joined forces to give the thousands of runners and sports enthusiasts the chance to make the most of the day of top-level sports in Singapore.
Over 53,000 runners will line up for this year’s SCMS and it is hoped many more will line the streets to cheer on their family and friends racing in the Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km, Ekiden and Kids Dash (750m) categories.
A complimentary shuttle service will be stationed at the Padang to transport spectators to various Cheer Stations along the route, allowing them to motivate the runners with specially designed SCMS Cheer Kits.
The thrilling action at the finish line on St Andrew’s Rd can be viewed from a number of comfortable vantage points, with a real highlight certain to be Haile Gebrselassie taking part in the 10km. The man widely regarded as one of the greatest ever long distance runners will also be joined by 20 of the world’s best Marathoners who will be racing the 42.195km distance for a first prize of $US 50,000.
A range of carnival activities will also be hosted on the Padang, including the Kids Zone to keep the young runners and spectators entertained throughout the morning.
Then its time to turn your attention from the roads to the courts.
The 9th edition of the Nations Cup takes place at the OCBC Arena at the Singapore Sports Hub from Sunday 7th through to Saturday 13th December 2014.
The six-team action begins on Super Sunday with the opening ceremony at 1.45pm before the hosts and reigning Asian Champions Singapore (world ranking 19th) take on world number 17, Papua New Guinea at 3pm.
Two more matches follow in the shape of Ireland (28th) vs Botswana (16th) at 5pm then Samoa (14th) vs Malaysia (23rd) at 7pm so you can sit back and relax after your hard morning run and enjoy watching some high-paced netball from across the continents.
Aside from the on-court action, spectators will have the chance to meet Team Singapore at the Fan Zone on Sunday and throughout the week; have your photos taken at the Nations Cup photo booth; grab some exclusive Nations Cup merchandise; and before the Opening Ceremony, Maria Tutaia – current New Zealand goal shooter and a Commonwealth Gold Medallist will be holding a meet and greet from 1.15pm. Pose with a true legend of the sport before you rest those legs!
